We will do it at pace': Defence secretary vows defence review will take less than a year

At a NATO summit in Washington, Healey emphasized that defending Europe from Russian aggression will take precedence over sending military assets to Asia. This marks a shift from the previous government's defence strategy, which had focused on increasing the UK's presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

Mr. Healey announced that the upcoming "strategic defence r eview" will be conducted thoroughly and swiftly, aiming to complete it in less than a year. He emphasized the need for "deep reform" within the Ministry of Defence, acknowledging that such reforms will not be quick.

Addressing resource allocation, Healey noted that the UK has often o verextended by promising to address all global challenges. He stated that the primary focus must now be on war in Europe, Russian aggression, and NATO commitments, marking a strategic shift towards prioritizing European defence over global military engagements.
